Who Is Waypoint Church

Waypoint is one church gathered in many locations. We value the truth of Scripture, the teachings of Jesus, the way of life He has called us to live, and the mission to love and serve our neighbors for the sake of the gospel. For clarity, we've distilled our identity into the five "We Are" statements listed below.

"We are Gospel-centered."

The gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ perfectly fulfilled the law, sacrificially died for our sins, physically rose from the dead, to permanently reconcile His people to a holy God through repentance of sin and faith in Him. We call that good news “the gospel,” and it invites us into a brand-new life, a restored relationship with God, and an eternal residence in His coming kingdom. We are unapologetically centered on this good news and we will forever be a good-news people.

"We are Transformed by Truth."

The gospel does not just save us, but it changes us. It teaches us to live all of life all for Jesus. The power to follow Jesus comes from two things: the Holy Spirit and the word of God. The Holy Spirit is at work in us to illuminate and apply God’s living and active word—renewing our minds and transforming our hearts, expanding our capacity for all of life worship.

"We are missionally engaged."

Disciples live with the same purpose as Jesus: to make God known and loved all over the world. Everything we do is aimed toward that end. We are passionate about equipping God’s people to love God and love their neighbors—to go across the street and around the world.

"We are faithful servants."

Jesus’ life was marked by faithful, humble, and generous service. We follow His example by serving others faithfully both inside the church and out in the community. This is a tangible expression of God’s grace and love for the world.

"We are an authentic community."

Community is the context for worship, discipleship, mission, and service. It’s not a preference but rather a part of our new identity as God’s people. We were made for relationship with God and with one another. The gospel creates space for us to be fully known and wholly loved.

Our Campus Pastor

Noah Coates is a husband to Allison (Ali), dad to Monty (3) and Neriah (2), and a St. Louis native who met Jesus and never looked back. God gave him a mission: to create spaces where people feel known, loved, and seen by Him and each other.

That mission has a specific address. Overland, Missouri has not seen a new church planted in over 20 years. It sits quietly in the shadow of a busy city, not particularly known for anything within its own borders. But we believe God is not done with Overland. The spiritual need is real, the missional opportunity is urgent, and the ground is ready. It is one of the most racially diverse communities in all of St. Louis, where many cultures live side by side, yet so far away. So different, yet dearly loved by the same God, with the power to bring them together. Waypoint Overland exists to help people find their way to Him. We are not just planting a church - we are bringing the Gospel into a spiritually stagnant city with a vision for genuine renewal, and for a community where Revelation 7:9 becomes more than a verse. Every tribe, every tongue, every nation, worshiping the Lamb together. Not just in heaven someday, but in Overland, Missouri today.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our primary desire to plant Waypoint Overland is to reach those far from Christ. Dozens of denominational studies have confirmed that the average new church gains most of its new members (60–80 percent) from the ranks of people who are not attending any worshiping body. ”Why Plant Churches?” Tim Keller, Redeemer City to City. New churches serve as an incredible opportunity for those who are exploring the faith to join in on. Everyone is new in a church plant and can easily build relationships as we seek to grow spiritually!

Yes! We plan to have live preaching each Sunday, most often from pastor Noah. Typically, we will be in the same sermon series as our other Waypoint campuses. We will usually be walking through a book of the Bible together.

Absolutely! WayKids is making a way for kids to BELONG, so that they can BELIEVE in Jesus Christ for salvation, and BECOME the disciples God created them to be. If you have a child ages birth through 5th grade, we’d love to have them worship with us on Sunday mornings.
